Attack on Ex-President Jonathan’s home, a national shame, says Governor Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has condemned the recent attack on the residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Bayelsa State by gunmen yesterday

Ortom in a statement made available to DAILY POST described the attack as a national shame.

DAILY POST had reported that on Tuesday, a soldier on guard duty was killed after unknown gunmen attacked the courtyard of Jonathan situated close to the bank of the river at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that about three of the gunmen were also killed by the soldiers, who foiled their attempt to break into the former president’s house.

The Governor wondered why armed men would want to harm a peace-loving man and former President of the country.

He questioned the fate of ordinary Nigerians ‘ if Dr Jonathan could be attacked.’

The statement read in part: “The Governor describes the attack as unfortunate and urges security operatives to bring the culprits to justice.

“He also calls on security agencies to intensify surveillance in all parts of the country to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

“Governor Ortom joins other Nigerians in praising God for sparing the life of former President Jonathan when the attackers invaded his residence.

“If Dr Jonathan could be attacked in such a manner, what becomes of vulnerable Nigerians?”
