Dr. Benedict Binebai, Head of Department, HOD, Theatre Arts, Niger Delta University, NDU, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma in Bayelsa State has emerged chairman of the Ijaw National Congress, INC Electoral Committee.
Dr. Binebai’s emergence as chairman of the electoral committee was as a result of the resignation of Rear Admiral W. G. Yanga, former chairman of the committee to which Ben Binebai and others were members.
According to a source who pleaded not to be mentioned in print had told The Liberator Newspaper that the decision to make Dr. Ben chairman of the INC to conduct election for the remaining offices was reached yesterday at a crucial meeting of the National Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders, (N-CITRE) held at the King Koko Hall of the Traditional Rulers Council Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Our source had continued that following the resignation letter tendered by the former INC electoral committee chairman, Rear Admiral Yanga that was presented before the leadership of N-CITRE, the conference approved the resignation and confirmed Dr. Ben Binebai who was nominated by members of the electoral committee to be its chairman.
However, when contacted, Binebai had maintained that he and the entire members of the committee will continue from where Rear Admiral Yanga stopped, noting that they will conduct free, fair and credible election to fill the remaining offices of the INC.
In his words: “We will conduct an election that the entire Ijaw nation will be proud of”.
He had hinted our reporter that same delegate list will be used to conduct the election for the remaining positions, revealing that election will be conducted for the President of Ijaw National Congress, INC, Vice President 1, Vice President 2, Secretary general and as well as Financial Secretary.
According to Ben Binebai, the election will hold on Saturday 20th of July 2019 at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
