A pan Ijaw group, the Movement for the Survival of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND),has sent a commendation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the ordered forensic probe of the operations of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from inception till date.

The MOSIEND, in the commendation letter, made available to newsmen in Yenagoa yesterday via email and signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Winston Cotterel Amain, however called on President Muhammad Buhari to order a similar forensic audit of the commission’s dealings with all contractors and the 13 per cent derivation fund accrued to states since 1999.

MOSIEND said the decision to commend the President, Muhammad Buhari for ordering for the Forensic Audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission from inception of the establishment of the agency till date, was based on its timeliness and need to redirect the commission on the path of proactive intervention work and development on the region.

According to the group, though no stone should be left unturned in the ordered forensic probe, the probe should also cover the dealings of the Commission with all contractors who are yet to complete their jobs should complete such jobs, “Every Contractor that has been paid and have not completed their jobs should be brought to book and such contractors should be forced to cough out such funds”.

The MOSIEND also urged President Muhammad Buhari to order a similar forensic audit of the 13% derivation funds accrued to oil producing states since 1999 and necessary actions taken against state governors that eered, ‘it is only then, that we will know that President Buhari has the region at heart. The oil producing communities have suffered for too long.’

MOSIEND also decried the level of underdevelopment of the oil rich Niger Delta and condemned the action of the State Governors’ interferance in the interventionist Niger Delta  Development Commission.

It also called on the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Victor Akpabio to urgently focus on the completion of the East West Road as that road has become a death trap.

On the issue of repeated calls for restructuring, the Ijaw Youth group noted that there is the need for restructuring,’ it is now or never. The President sBuhari led administration should immediately convoke a Constitutional conference or in a bid to cut cost, should review the Constitutional Conference convoked in 2016 by Goodluck Jonathan administration. Noting that, only then that the Nigerian Federation will remain one indivisive entity’
