Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has sent a list of commissioner nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.

A letter containing the list of the nominees, dated April 5th, 2024, and personally signed by the governor, was addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Abraham Ngobere.

The list, which came two months after Diri was sworn in as governor on February 14, 2024, contained 14 nominees. 

The nominees include six former commissioners. The returnees are Dambo Biriyai, the immediate past Attorney General and Commissione for Justice; Maxwell Ebibai, Commissioner for Finance; Moses Teibowei, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports; Gentle Emelah, Commissioner for Education; and Jones Ebieri, Commissioner for Mineral Resources.

The new nominees include Mrs Ebiwou Obiyai, a former member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly; Ayibakipreye Broderick; George Flint; Komuko Kharim; Perepuighe Biewari; Barr Peter Afagha; Mrs Bidei Elizabeth; and Michael Magbisa, a former chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area.

“Kindly accept the warm assurances of my highest consideration and extend same to the esteemed members of the House,” the letter stated. 

Meanwhile, the commissioner nominees are expected to appear before the House next Thursday for screening and confirmation. (Vanguard)
