Economic Hardship: Niger Delta Group calls for patience with Tinubu

A Niger Delta group, Centre for Peare and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has called on Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu over the hardships currently being faced in the country.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Mulade Sheriff urged Nigerians to be hopeful that things would turn around soon against the backdrop that  the President was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy under his watch.

Chief Mulade Sheriff, who is the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, said that it is imperative to note that the current situation is a global phenomenon that is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

He said, “I strongly believe that the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has the capacity, ability, and competence to fix Nigeria’s economy, but he needs time and support to achieve this.”

Reflecting on the nation’s economy, Chief Sheriff who noted that the Nigerian economy was already bastardized before the emergence of the President; therefore, he needs time and support, though he is not a magician.

He said, “Amidst the current economic challenges in Nigeria, sparked by fiscal policies like the devaluation of the naira, increase in the power tariffs, and the removal of fuel subsidies under President Tinubu’s administration, which has induced spiraling inflation, there are, however, silver linings and opportunities for growth. These hardships have catalyzed a shift towards self-reliance and innovation.

“As Nigerians adapt to higher tariffs and reduced subsidies, there’s a growing emphasis on energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and local production. This presents a chance for the nation to invest in sustainable solutions and reduce dependency on imported goods. Additionally, the devaluation of the naira encourages domestic production and exports, boosting local industries and creating job opportunities.

“Moreover, these challenges foster resilience and resourcefulness among the populace. Nigerians are harnessing their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to weather the storm, paving the way for a more diversified and resilient economy. Community support networks are flourishing, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual aid.

“While the road ahead may be challenging, there’s optimism for the future. By embracing innovation, promoting local industries, and fostering a culture of resilience, Nigerians are laying the foundation for a more robust and prosperous economy. The current hardships serve as a catalyst for positive change, driving the nation towards a brighter future built on self-reliance, innovation, and unity.” (Vanguard)
