Navy redeploys 32 senior officers, announces pact with India

The Nigerian Navy has redeployed 32 Rear Admirals in a major shakeup, according to postings from the Navy headquarters released on Monday in Abuja.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, approved the major re-organisation of the top echelon of the force.

According to the release, some of the postings include; Rear Admiral Begroy Ibe-Enwo, who was redeployed as the Chief of Policy and Plans, while Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, who was formerly Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe, was redeployed to the Defence Headquarters as the Chief of Defence Administration.

Also, a former Deputy Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Rear Admiral Tariworio Dick, has been redeployed as the Chief of Training and Operations at the Naval Headquarters, while Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir now resumes at the Headquarters Western Naval Command as the Chief Staff Officer.

Furthermore, Rear Admiral Adeseye Ayobanjo was redeployed as the new Commandant of the Naval War College.

Meanwhile, Ibas has said the Indian Navy had agreed to support the Nigerian Navy in the areas of training and military cooperation.

Ibas stated this in Abuja when he received the Indian High Commissioner, Mr Abhay Thakur, who called for a closer working relationship between the two navies.
