Recall Officers Deployed For Election Duty In Bayelsa, IGP Urged

A former Bayelsa East senator, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, has appealed to the police authorities to recall officers deployed to Opu-Nembe Bassambiri in Bayelsa State for the state’s November 2023 governorship election.

The ex-lawmaker, during a press briefing in Abuja, said the community had witnessed violence and property damage despite police presence in the area.

Senator Degi-Eremienyo expressed dismay over the killing of innocent people, vandalism, and looting in the community, including his residence within the vicinity of the stationed policemen.

He decried the failure of the police officers to prevent these incidents, which he said undermined the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining peace and security in Bayelsa State.

He, therefore, called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to withdraw the deployed officers from outside the Bayelsa State Police Command, stating that their presence had exceeded any perceived usefulness.

He also appealed to the state governor, Douye Diri, to lead efforts in peacefully resolving conflicts and ensuring free movement for all community members. (Daily Trust)
